The day's theme song?

I mentioned this song to Mary D and C.A.Marie -- okay, I may have been singing it -- and C.A.Marie rigged it up so we could hear it in the car, and later suggested that it was the day's theme music:

(NB: This is not the radio edit. None of the language in here is particularly shocking to me, but be aware that some of your more tender-eared friends, family, coworkers, etc could have reason to object.)

So, that there MIA....

When I go visiting museums in big cities I sometimes feel a little wistful that we don't have facilities on that scale...and then I go to the MIA and happen upon 3+ things I've never seen before, despite said items probably having been there all that time. This has transpired more than once, so obviously I've got some sort of disconnect. Luckily it's not enough of a disconnect to keep me from going back and letting it take place over and over again!

Monet, Van Gogh, Seurat, Kandinsky, Paul Revere silver (okay I think that was a special exhibit), Japanese fans, Marsden Hartley, the Grand Salon from the Hôtel Gailliard de La Bouëxière...delightful. And we made sure to visit the "Supper with Shakespeare" exhibit.

Now we're having a palate-cleanser (actual palates and mental palates) at Spyhouse before we meet up with well-wishers for dinner.

MIA not missing in action

We are at the museum, and I am looking forward to art.  So off we go into the breach.

popped some tags

Post breakfast we immediately felt drawn into the st vincent de Paul's by glittery stuff. Some purchases were made. Energy at a high level we moved onto another thrift store were more treasures were found.

Shopping was a bit draining so we paused for a late light lunch and had some perogis at St Constantines, an IMAD tradition.

Much refreshed we went onto a favorite consignment store where bargains were found.

Now onto the museum, pictures to come!

Breakfast at the Day By Day! Internet access! Amazing IMAD miracles already!

Okay, so, the caffeine hasn't quite kicked in yet in a way that makes it easier to communicate, but trust us, it's already a wonderful day. C.A.Marie is joining us for the first time and is thoroughly enjoying the magic. In fact, we all wore coordinating sweater-scarf combos as though a memo had been issued! Notable Marys in Art: Mary Cassatt

Hey, Wikipedia! Who's this Mary Cassatt I've been hearing about in all the coolest art circles?

"Mary Stevenson Cassatt was an American painter and printmaker. She lived much of her adult life in France, where she first befriended Edgar Degas and later exhibited among the Impressionists. Cassatt often created images of the social and private lives of women, with particular emphasis on the intimate bonds between mothers and children.

"She was described by Gustave Geffroy in 1894 as one of 'les trois grandes dames' of Impressionism alongside Marie Bracquemond and Berthe Morisot."

Notable Marys in Song: "Proud Mary"

The song "Proud Mary" is such an integral part of modern-day music, it's hard to know what to say about it! Written by John Fogerty and first recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival for release in late 1968 or early 1969 (probably the latter), it has been covered numerous times, most notably by this woman who now owns it in all but the legal sense:
